The Guest List

March 8, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Guest Book, Where to Start

Making the guest list can be stressful to many couples planning their wedding. To make it easier, here are important questions to ask yourself.

Are you going for a small intimate ceremony or a large loud one?  When you know the answer, you know how long your guest list should be.

How much are you willing to spend? A lot of guests equals to a lot of money needed. Caterers usually charge per head so you have to trim down your guest list if you are operating on a tight budget.

Will they be able to make it? The date of the wedding should also influence the guest list. Some may be able to attend while some may not.

Where is the wedding and reception going to be held? If for example, you are planning a destination wedding, the distance will be a considerable factor to some of your guests. In addition, you need to know how many people can be accommodated in your venue. The venue can only hold a certain number of people, exceed that and some may have problems with seating.

Wedding Colors for 2010

March 2, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Color, Where to Start

In keeping up to date with the trends, fashion authorities have decreed that brighter colors are in rage among bridal accessories. Instead of an all white look, go for splashes of pink or red on your gown with fabric flowers. If you are not into any frills, a simple but colorful sash or ribbon tied at your waist will do the trick.

Jewelry in varying colors is also a good idea. Hairpieces adorned with off white pearls will serve dual purposes. If you liked Sarah Jessica Parker’s feathered headpiece in the Sex in the City movie, you could go with something similar, maybe with the same color as your motif. You can also have your bridesmaids in different dress colors.

Going for colorful shoes add a little extra while you are walking down the aisle. Picture the tips of your shoes peeking out with their bright colors with every step you make. Your groom and your guests’ eyes will be pleasurably surprised for sure.

Tips in Choosing Your Wedding Date

January 20, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Choosing Your Wedding Date, Where to Start

Getting married is truly one of the best moments for any bride to be, but choosing when exactly to tie the knot can be a bit tricky. You need to choose a date that works for both you and your groom, your guests, your wedding venue, and of course your budget. Here are some tips to help you in choosing your wedding date:

  • Choose a wedding date or month that is far from any weddings you will be attending. This is so that you can attend and help in your friend’s wedding, and they can do the same for you.
  • Think about the season you want to get married in. Most venues are cheaper during off peak seasons like winter, and this helps you to save a lot for your wedding. The setback in having your wedding during off peak season is that you won’t be able to have an outdoor one, like a beach or garden wedding.
  • If possible, go for a cool wedding date like 10/10/10 but of course, weddings on that date will definitely be more expensive. Just weigh the pros and cons of the date you choose.

Have Your Wedding Close to the Holidays

January 6, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Where to Start

If you think that having your wedding during the Christmas or New Year or just after it is a bad idea, think again. This actually offers some advantages, and here are a few just to enumerate:

1. First of all, most venues are already decorated, allowing you to save plenty of money on your wedding decorations. Also, you don’t need to bust your brains out into thinking of what colors to use, just work with what the season has to offer!

2. Second, most of your guests are probably on their holiday breaks from work, so that means there are more people to attend your wedding, which also means there will be more friends and family members to share your most special moment with.

3. Third, having your wedding during this season also means you can use winter inspired favors and decorations. Why not have a winter-themed wedding instead and have your guests come in their favorite winter outfits?

So there you have it! Remember to take advantage of what the season has to offer you!

Tips in Choosing your Wedding Colors

December 29, 2009 | Author: Leslie, Color, Where to Start

One of the first things you should decide on when planning your wedding is your wedding color scheme. If you are a bit undecided as to what color to use and if you’re also wondering if the colors you pick go well with each other, here are a few tips to get you going:

  • Choose colors that compliment your wedding venue and reception. Even if you really like a certain color, if it doesn’t go well with your wedding venue and reception, don’t use it.
  • Choose colors that compliment the season you are going to get married on. Spring and summer weddings usually have light color schemes and fall and winter weddings lean on darker colors.
  • You should also choose at least 2 main colors and others can be complimentary colors so that your wedding scheme doesn’t look confusing and unpleasant to the eyes.

Tips for Having an Affordable Wedding

December 10, 2009 | Author: Leslie, Where to Start

Your wedding day can be as beautiful as you imagined it to be when you were a child, even though as an adult you are more aware of costs. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Always plan in advance. In this way, you can make reservations for venues and caterers during off season and get off season rates.
  • Don’t settle for the first thing you see. Always check other vendors and know your options. Some vendors may be a bit overpriced compared to others.
  • Do things yourself whenever you can, like your wedding hair or your wedding make up for instance. Doing your own wedding favors as well as your wedding centerpieces go a long way in saving you money.

How to Have a Themed Wedding

December 5, 2009 | Author: Leslie, Where to Start

A themed wedding is a great way to save on wedding expenses because you can make do with a lot of things you already have, and so will your guests! You can save on wedding expenses and have fun at the same time!

You need to think about the style and the mood you want to set for your wedding – is it sophisticated, romantic, or casual? Imagine the romantic ambiance in a garden wedding, as well as the fun in having a 50’s themed wedding with the reception at a night club.

You also need to consider your budget. Doing so helps you in making realistic goals for your wedding and other ideas you can throw into your wedding. What’s important is you and your guests have as much fun as possible – during the ceremony and the reception!

December 1, 2009 | Author: Leslie, Choosing Your Wedding Date, Color, Low Cost Ideas

If you think having a wedding while the Christmas season is near is a bad idea, think again. You can actually end up saving a lot more if you have your wedding during this season.

For starters, you get to save on wedding decoration as most venues are already decorated with Christmas-inspired decorations.

Second, you don’t need to stress over thinking about what color scheme to follow – green and red during this season are your best options. Your guests will also love going to your wedding during this season as it is already sort of a pre-Christmas reunion with friends and family. Plus, with the upcoming season, your guests will probably be in the mood to give more gifts!

Three Things to Remember when Shopping for your Wedding

August 6, 2009 | Low Cost Ideas, Uncategorized, Where to Start

Are you busy shopping for items you need for your big day? You may be surprised at how expensive things can get when shopping for wedding items.

Here are some things to remember when shopping for wedding items:

1. Don’t mention the big “W.”

When shopping, do not mention that you are buying the items for a wedding. You may be surprised at how prices seem to dramatically increase when vendors find out that the items are needed at a wedding. When calling for prices for DJs and flowers, don’t mention it as well. It is quite understandable because some vendors just want to make the most out of the law of supply and demand.

2. Borrow things if possible.

Let’s be realistic – you aren’t going to wear your wedding veil to the mall when shopping or for any other occasion other than your wedding, right? So opt to borrow items or even rent items like suits, bridesmaid gowns, etc. This will be a real cost cutter and a closet space saver as well.

3. Ask for help.

Since this is their big day, most brides tend to feel that they should do everything related to the wedding. Don’t be afraid to seek help from a friend or a relative. Asking people to split tasks with you like shopping, making invitations, calling for prices, etc. can help save a lot of time and keep you well rested, focused, and looking great for your big day!

It must be the Day of the Week

July 10, 2009 | Choosing Your Wedding Date, Tip of the week, Uncategorized, Where to Start

It must be the Day of the Week

Choosing the right wedding date does not only contribute to your collection of yearly memos of dates to celebrate, but could also save you some bucks! Having a weeknight wedding, or a typical Sunday morning wedding can result to caterers giving you better rates or discounts! So opt for days with lesser demands or better yet, if you want to have the traditional church wedding, allow it to fall near a major holiday. Chances are, these churches would be fully decorated, thus saving you lots of money on decor, flowers and other arrangements. Even a simple candlelit venue and ceremony would be elegant, classic, romantic, and serene. Knowing your options are a plus especially when dealing with providers that up sell or charge higher for Weddings. Sometimes it is best not to mention that the occasion is a wedding.

Conflicting Dates

When there is another wedding scheduled at the same venue on the same day, this can cost you heavily!  Some venues are short staffed, or unable to handle the demands that more than one wedding may call for!  Last year I attended two weddings in which the staff was scrambling to keep up with the demands due to being short handed.  In addition, there were other weddings at the same time.  It was just horrible once I think of it!  I would never want a look of confusion and/or lack of organization on such an important day!

Conflicting dates just don’t end there.  You’ve scheduled your day and sent out your save the date card or invites and now you are reminded by a parent that it is your Great Grandmother’s 90th Birthday!  In all actuality you should have known this in advance!  So, be sure to do your research and schedule things on a date that not just you and your husband can agree on; but the whole family!  We put a poll up at 5K Weddings Forum and you’ll be surprised that 75% stated that they would change their wedding date if scheduled the same day as another’s wedding or family event!   12/5% stated that they would schedule a double wedding and 12.5% that they would ask the other party to change their plans!  Amazing!

Quick Tips

  • Always ask questions.  ”Are there rate changes for holidays?  Weekends?”
  • Consult with family!  It is considered rude to have tunnel vision when planning an event you expect family to show without knowing what else can or will be celebrated at that time.
  • Ask more questions!  ”Is there another event scheduled the same day as mine at your facility?”

If uncomfortable with anything don’t proceed!  But happy planning!
