The Flower Girl
April 11, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Flower Girl, wedding processional
Although not required in the wedding processional, you may choose to include one or two flower girls as part of your entourage. They herald the entrance of the bride and scatter flower petals on her path to the altar. There is also no clear cut rule as to how many you may have as flower girls, it will primarily depend on your preference and if you or your future husband has young cousins or nieces that will fit the bill. Large weddings often have more than two in the processional but it is perfectly fine to have just one.
In the old days, both young girls and boys used to scatter grains and herbs
along with flowers in the bride’s path to represent future prosperity and fertility for the couple. It has changed a bit over time and today, only the girls are given the role of scattering flowers and young boys act as pages or ring bearers.
