Basic Receptions on a Budget

October 17, 2009 | Author: Leslie, Reception

If you want to save on your wedding, you should carefully plan when to have your wedding reception, as it is undoubtedly is the most expensive part of your wedding. Here are a few tips to get you started:

  • Hold your reception around 10 – 11AM. In this way, you would be having a brunch reception and serve inexpensive food like bread, muffins, or other breakfast food. The only setback is that you would have to wake up very early and have your wedding very early as well.
  • Have a luncheon reception which is usually held late in the morning. Serve salads, fruits, and finger sandwiches. Garnish a plate of cold cuts and you’re good to go!
  • If you can, have your reception around 2 – 5PM. In this way, you can have a dessert themed reception and you can even serve your favorite desserts.

Another great tip is to not serve alcohol but have a cash bar instead. If your guests want to be intoxicated, they can do so out of their own pocket and not yours.  Just remember, they are here to enjoy themselves and be entertained with your happiness…nothing else!

An Afternoon Tea Party

September 3, 2009 | 5K Weddings DIY, Low Cost Ideas, Reception, Uncategorized

Instead of having a meal served during a shower or reception, you can always opt for an afternoon tea party with fanciful and well crafted finger sandwhiches, little bars and bite sized cookies, tea, coffee and punch. You can easily do this in your backyard or garden.  It is more economical and less expensive. You don’t need to hire a caterer as all the food items can be made and frozen ahead. Family and relatives can easily thaw, plate and serve them even if they are dressed for the occasion.  Having an afternoon tea party is wonderfully elegant but not as costly as a full meal. You can also serve cupcakes bought from your local bakeshops, chocolate bars and candies in a bowl and some chips or peanuts well distributed on each tables. Piles of sandwiches on a 3 tier holder can instantly become your centerpiece too!

Afternoon tea parties work best with small groups and with bridal showers.  Ask your caterer and come up with ideas for incorporating this idea if you believe this is the way to go!  Enjoy!

Instead of having the traditional three tier cakes while will cost you a lot, join the cupcake crowd and have your local bakery shop supply you with the cupcakes. If you can manage to bake them yourself, much better. Browse through cupcaketree.com and check some design to help you get an idea. The site mainly offers cupcake trees that you can resuse during several occasions but try to study the layout and maybe you dont need to order one. 3 Great Wedding Reception Ideas

July 20, 2009 | Low Cost Ideas, Reception, Uncategorized

We all have a dream of what our wedding would be like when we were children. But when we grew up, what a shock it was to find how expensive things are! Here are 3 great wedding reception ideas to help you save money on the most expensive part of your wedding ceremony:

  • Hold your wedding during the day or around lunch time. In that way, you don’t need to serve your guests dinner. Having your wedding during the morning also allows for natural lighting in the pictures and also means that your guests will be served less liquor.  Weekend and afternoon weddings are more expensive depending on venue.
  • Have a cash bar instead and introduce champagne for the toast only. If your guests want to get toasted on alcohol, they can do so out of their own pockets. Just serve tea, coffee, punch, or soft drinks in addition to the champagne.
  • Consider a pot luck reception. Have close friends and family each cook a special dish for your reception. In this way, there will be a lot of great food to go around without the cost of a caterer.

Give it a Twist!

July 11, 2009 | Reception, Receptions, Uncategorized

JustMarried Sandals

I saw a feature before about a celebrity wedding. The ceremony was simple with minimal guests. Elegant floral arrangements with white-green-light yellow theme gave out a fresh summer feeling to both the guests and the viewers as well. The simplicity was its best decor.

The wedding ceremony was done in the morning, at around 8-10. It was brief but the whole wedding celebration ate up the entire day and the reception was done in the evening. The couple shared a sense of humor and wanted to treat their guest with a little “something something”. After a solemn ceremony came the fun part: the way to the reception.

The guests have no idea where the reception will be held. The invitation did not include any specific details but only informed the guests that the occasion is a whole day affair and that they were to wear comfortable clothes after the wedding. So after the wedding ceremony, the ushers gave each guest one slipper which contains the location of the reception as well as the direction as to how to get there. Upon arriving at the reception venue, these guests were required to find the other pair of their slippers (clues were also given out together with the first slipper). The venue was held at a white beach front. Slippers where cleverly hidden and the guests were also given enough time to explore and appreciate the island (since the reception was set to evening). Once they were done, they were asked to use them during the whole duration of the reception. These slippers also served as their give-away to their guest.

I’ll definitely do something like this once I get married. I’ll make sure that all our guests will also feel the excitement and happiness by actually being part of the wedding celebration activities. And why not include a lot of twist along the way? Like adding additional stop-overs for the guests before finally figuring out where the exact location is. Like a treasure hunt! But this stop-overs should provide them with exciting activities, games and the likes. For example, on the first destination, a photo booth awaits them with costumes and wigs, and they are to take a picture of themselves. Once they’re finish with the task, second clue will the be provided. On the second destination, let the guests have a taste of both you and your husband’s favorite cupcake or drink of your favorite wine. Be creative and people would never forget about your wedding day. You don’t need to rent for additional venues. A simple part in a park would do. If you were able to purchase your own house, host one stop-over in there. It’s also a way of showing your guests as to where you would be settling in. Other locations that I could think of are your university or school (if it’s just near), A relatives or friend’s establishment, or any other locations that both you and your husband have something connected with. Be resourceful and you can actually get a lot of cheap ideas.
