Check out these tips to help you save money on your wedding cake.
Shop around. Don’t be tempted to go with the first baker or cake that you like because there might be another one that is more to your liking and is more affordable. You can also check out bakers that do not specialize on wedding cakes or home bakers because they will usually charge less.
When you are looking and talking to prospective wedding cake makers, do not tell them it is for a wedding. Vendors will usually charge higher than usual once they know it is for a major event.
Choose a simple cake and skip elaborate trimmings and decorations. The more decorations, the more labor, and time will be required to make the cake, which equals to a higher charge from the baker. If you are up to it, you can decorate the cake yourself or have some friends or family members help you.
You can also go with a smaller cake that will be on display throughout the reception and serve sheet cakes to your guests when it is time for dessert. They will not know it didn’t come from the actual cake on display, anyway.
