Money Saving Tips on Wedding Flowers

April 25, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets, Flowers

If you have chosen a backyard wedding and reception, use flowering potted plants or those with brightly colored foliage to decorate the area. It would go with the overall feel of a backyard but with color kicked up a few notches. For those who can, it would be a great idea to grow your own in time to bloom in time for your wedding. If you are an experienced gardener, you can put your skills to great use and think of how proud and accomplished you will be when your guests gush over the beautiful blossoms and then find out that you are responsible for them.

Go for a small bridal party. The fewer the bridesmaids, the less flowers you will need for them. You can also have them each carry a single, bright, and overlarge flower instead of bouquets. I actually find them more charming and dramatic instead of them having them carry traditional bouquets and it makes the bride stand out more because she is the only woman who has one.

Bouquet Toss Alternatives

April 16, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets, Guests, wedding programs

Here are some alternatives to the traditional bouquet toss of the bride after the wedding ceremony. This is especially useful for those looking for unique ways to celebrate their union and those mindful of their single guests who may dread this particular part of the wedding.

Make a game out of the usual bouquet toss. Think of the game musical chairs. Have all the single women form a circle and have the bouquet passed around while the music is playing. When the music stops, the one holding the bouquet is “eliminated” from the game. Repeat the process until there are three women left. To create a surprise twist, when the music stops, the one left holding the bouquet gets to be the winner.

If you would rather focus on your married guests, another enjoyable game the “longest married toss” where all the married couples come together to the center. Have the emcee or DJ ask those married for 5 years or less to be seated. After, ask if there are any that have been married for less than 10 years. Repeat the process until only one couple remains standing, the couple who has been married the longest. They get to be awarded with the bouquet.

Popular Wedding Flowers

March 27, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets

If you are still undecided on the flowers to use, here are three of the most popular flowers used in weddings to help you on your way.

Roses

Definitely, the rose is the number one favorite wedding flower of all time. Roses are sturdy flowers and can hold up really well held in a bouquet, as a table centerpiece, and as a hair or dress accessory. It comes with many beautiful colors and each with its own meaning, like red for passionate love, pink for happiness, and white for purity. Roses can be put in arrangement with other flowers but are also spectacular in its own.

Tulips

These elegant spring flower goes well in an arrangement with other flowers but is equally beautiful on its own just like the rose. Tulips also come in many different colors like red, white, yellow, and blue.

Calla Lily

This flower’s trumpet like shape is what makes it popular among wedding celebrations, as if it is heralding the union of husband and wife. It is also one of the easiest to arrange, not needing any filler plants or other flowers. Just tie some flowers together in a white ribbon and it is an instant bouquet.

Caring for your Wedding Flowers

March 17, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets

Don’t let the summer heat wilt your flowers on your wedding day especially if you are having a outdoor or garden wedding. Here are some tips from florists to help keep your flowers fresh and beautiful throughout this special event. This way, by the time you get to the picture taking part, your flowers will look as fresh as they were at the beginning of the ceremony.

  • Store the flowers and bouquets in a refrigerator and only take them out when they are needed.
  • Go with a small hand tied bouquet instead of a big one.
  • Choose hardy flowers like orchids and roses. They will not wilt easily as other delicate flowers under the sun.
  • If you do not like orchids or roses, try local flowers that are in season.
  • Avoid exposing them to too much sun. Place them in a shaded or cool area when they are not needed.
  • Spray or mist them with water to rejuvenate your blooms every hour or so. Better yet, have vases filled with cool water close by so you can pop them in when needed.

Consider Artificial Flowers

January 2, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets

If your intention is to save as much as possible for your wedding day, have you considered using artificial flowers instead? This does pose several advantages compared to using fresh flowers, like the fact that they do not wilt or get stained. Another advantage is that artificial flowers are much lighter and the petals do not drop or get loose. Artificial flowers are also hypoallergenic and do not attract insects towards you. ;-)

Of course, the final decision is still up to you. Or better yet, you can substitute artificial flowers in some decorations and use fresh ones for your corsage.

Diamond in the Rough:  Baby’s Breath

Another way to use it is to create a bouquet; white, tinted with or without another flower to compliment.  This inexpensive way of creating bouquets for the bride and/or bridesmaid, a boutonniere, or centerpiece is not often thought of.  Imagine that you spend $40 per bouquet and for centerpieces from $60 and up; using baby’s breath you have just saved from $35 and up!

Where to Buy Wedding Flowers

July 12, 2009 | 5K Weddings, 5K Weddings DIY, Bouquets, Resources, Uncategorized

whitebouqet

Some brides choose to make their own wedding bouquet and it’s a pretty good idea and is a great cost saver. But where should one buy flowers? Here are some places you should go to when buying wedding flowers:

Farmer’s Markets

Don’t think that farmers just grow fruits and vegetables. Some farmers grow flowers and it would be a good idea to have a chat or two with a local farmer and tell them what you need and find out what they have.

Store Florists

A flower shop is easily the best place to look for wedding flowers. Some florists will be happy to arrange the flowers for you and may charge a fee, so do some shopping first and see what offers and deals you can get.

Grocery Stores

If you’re planning a small wedding, a trip to the local grocery store and their flower section may be just what you need. You may also be able to tell the grocery merchant what other flowers are available and if you can make reservations for them ahead of time.

Mail/Online Order

Well, when in a rush, you can always have some flowers shipped to your home. Some companies ship loose flowers which you will have to arrange yourself, and it would be a good idea to try and order some first just to check the condition in which the flowers arrive before ordering the real thing.

So there, hope these tips help! Always remember to keep your options open and never settle for less when it comes to your big day!
