It is a great way to share pictures, ideas, and keep guests abreast of what’s happening in terms of preparing for the wedding. It will also be easier to get help and keep track of what you still need to do before the big day arrives. Wedding websites from eWedding.com are free and very easy to make. Save Some Paper, Save Some Cash

July 28, 2009 | Low Cost Ideas, Resources, Uncategorized

You would think that having everything on-line is a bit tacky. I think not because it reaches a larger audience in a shorter time frame and is very economical. Internet invitations or “e-invites” will save you from spending too much on invitations, mails and programs. To cut cost, here are some economical ideas that can be produced and maintained on-line:

  • Instead of having a traditional extravagant wedding invitations, create a nice presentation and email this to your friends. If you happen to know someone who creates flash, ask them to make one for you. This would be a great, low-cost, not to mention, unique idea for an invitation.

  • When sending emails, you can indicate telephone numbers or a link to where people could RSVP. There are  lots of free host that offers services like this. Examples are forums, on-line guests books and a lot more. All you have to do is sign up and give this link to your friends. And don’t worry about the site’s interface because free web host offers a readily available templates.

  • You can also create a blog site which features your wedding preparations. I have seen a lot of these on-line. Prenuptial pictures, RSVP page, and invitations are all there for guests to see. All you have to do is to look for a free host. So try to explore and maximize the Internet.

  • Instead of spending too much on a wedding photo shoot and packages which provide customized albums, create an on-line photo album using, again, some free site that offers photo host. Request an enthusiast friend to document the whole wedding and ask for a soft copy of your pictures. Upload them to this site and direct your friends to that link so they could also see your wedding photos. You can always have this photos developed once you have extra cash to spend.

If you worry that people might think you are being cheap by having things done on-line, remember that it is always the presentation that gives an impression. If you don’t know your way around the Internet, ask a internet and program savvy relative or friend to make one for you. Remember to have the presentation classy and fabulous! You are not just saving some extra cash, but you are also saving the planet by not creating waste. So start signing up for free wedding site hosts and discover your more creative and technical sides.

Buy or Sell Wedding Dresses

July 25, 2009 | Resources, Uncategorized, Wedding Gowns

Hello 5K Wedding Brides!

I found this buy or sell site called the BravoBride. They offers cheap pre-owned wedding items. Upon searching for a wedding gown, I used the advanced dress search feature and cut down my choices of wedding dresses which ranges from $1-$500. I found some nice elegant dresses that are good bargain. I want to share this to you to give you more options if you opt to buy a dress online. You might want to check their items.

One good thing about this is that all the lists are updated from time to time since it’s a user driven site. Other items includes jewelries, (but I suggest you borrow one from your relatives if you really want to cut down expenses or stay tuned for our DIY video segments that are on the way) party and shower items, and even grooms attire. Try exploring the site and discover some good finds.

Where to Buy Wedding Flowers

July 12, 2009 | 5K Weddings, 5K Weddings DIY, Bouquets, Resources, Uncategorized

whitebouqet

Some brides choose to make their own wedding bouquet and it’s a pretty good idea and is a great cost saver. But where should one buy flowers? Here are some places you should go to when buying wedding flowers:

Farmer’s Markets

Don’t think that farmers just grow fruits and vegetables. Some farmers grow flowers and it would be a good idea to have a chat or two with a local farmer and tell them what you need and find out what they have.

Store Florists

A flower shop is easily the best place to look for wedding flowers. Some florists will be happy to arrange the flowers for you and may charge a fee, so do some shopping first and see what offers and deals you can get.

Grocery Stores

If you’re planning a small wedding, a trip to the local grocery store and their flower section may be just what you need. You may also be able to tell the grocery merchant what other flowers are available and if you can make reservations for them ahead of time.

Mail/Online Order

Well, when in a rush, you can always have some flowers shipped to your home. Some companies ship loose flowers which you will have to arrange yourself, and it would be a good idea to try and order some first just to check the condition in which the flowers arrive before ordering the real thing.

So there, hope these tips help! Always remember to keep your options open and never settle for less when it comes to your big day!

Reception is at my Place

July 12, 2009 | 5K Weddings, 5K Weddings DIY, Resources, Uncategorized

While browsing at Discount Wedding Favor I found this cute picture of a hanging candle and I was instantly reminded of the Mama Mia movie. I remember I told my friend that I would love to have that kind of reception arrangement wherein trees were decorated with bottled candles hanging together with flourishing red flowers. And then she reminded me that it was just a movie and it is not that easy as it looks (not to mention cheap to obtain). I agreed back then.

But now, I’m actually itching to phone my friend (who is currently miles away from me) and tell her that “I can have that arrangement without planting a flower bearing tree at my garden and forever doing a harvest-rain-dance to force it to produce flowers for my wedding day!” Okay, that was a long speech with conviction, but I’m sure I could do that!

The Idea:

Sure you got lots of trees at your garden or at the backyard but it doesn’t produce a single blossom. Don’t worry, there’s an alternative. Remember how we used to create flowers petals using color papers and binding them using thin wires? Same simple steps but this time, try adding glitters to it by brushing glue to the whole surface and dusting glitters until it is all sparkling and nice. I love the bright colors of red or yellow. It will totally compliment the hanging candles.

Now for the hanging candles. All you have to do is buy a wholesale of long lasting candles, little shot glasses (or any other small sized glasses) and ribbons.

Once everything has been prepared, all you have to do now is to distribute it evenly on all the trees present at your venue. I suggest you ask for you father’s help in doing so, or your brother, or any relatives who is comfortable in climbing trees. But remember, this is ideal only for a weeknight wedding reception with limited guests. These trees will perfectly serve as the backdrop and the nice part about this is that you don’t need to spend another cent for flowers and arrangements on your reception. If you happened to have a vine in your garden, it would be perfect! Arrange the tables closely under the decorated vines and you’ll have a simple Greek wedding ambiance with wine bottles and rose petals. Try using the wine bottles as your centerpiece. Use it as a candle holder or use it as a vase if you have extra handmade flowers.

There are so many marvelous ways to make a statement at your wedding.  Whether it is the unexpected, or something really over the top; these things stay in the mind of your guest FOREVER!  It can be something little that says so much that is  deemed so huge.

While on one of my favorite sites: Etsy, I came across some vinyl lettering used in the home, outside the home or just about anywhere you choose!  How about on your wedding day?  I ordered some lettering and can’t wait til I receive them.  I will keep you posted on how my purchase turns out.  With so many providers you’ll have a ball deciding who to go with!

Ethnic Themed Wedding

July 9, 2009 | 5K Weddings, 5K Weddings DIY, Resources, Uncategorized

Ethnic Themed Wedding

A friend of mine mentioned that she wanted to have an ethnic-themed wedding with bamboos and all native stuffs, so I went about searching for an idea when I stumble upon this cute candle.  This DIY Project also doubles for anyone looking for an Earth, Green, or Autumn Theme!

Candle

It looks elegant but simple at the same time. But what I like most about this item is that you can actually make one yourself! “So call out those girlfriends and do a little bonding time!”

You see that all the materials used for this piece can be easily bought. There are a lot of shops that offers wholesale of candles and rope ribbons for a cheap price. The skeleton leaf can be easily bought too, but if you’re in a tight budget, but have a lot of friends or even cousins who are willing to help, why not make it, instead? All you have to do is look inside your kitchen cupboard and collect leaves.

Here’s how to do it:

Boil a pot of water.

Add a teaspoon of baking soda (per quart of water).

Place the leaves loosely into the pot before the water starts to boil.

Boil the leaves for about 30 minutes.

Remove the pot from the boiler and let it cool.

Once the water cooled down, carefully remove the leaves one at a time and place it on several layers of newspapers (this will help soak up the water).

Lastly, carefully scrape off the fleshy part of the leaves on both sides using a dull knife and let it dry under the sun.

If you made plenty of skeleton leaves or decided to finally put into use all the fallen leaves found in your lawn, why not continue with the creativity and make your own invitations too!
