Whether you have opted for a live band, a DJ, or your DIY playlist, the kind of music to be played at your reception should depend on the atmosphere you want to create. If you would like your guests to mingle and talk, choose more instrumental or mellow songs playing nicely in the background that will not interrupt the flow of conversation among them. You can have your favorite love songs or romantic piano solos while the guests are eating and conversing.
If you would like your guests dancing, play upbeat songs that will encourage them to get up and dance and play some slow ones for couples dancing as well. I went to a wedding that had an 80’s theme so we danced to a lot of Michael Jackson hits, Madonna, and Whitney Houston. It was a nice way of burning off all the food I went up twice to the buffet line for.
