Believe It or Not

Here are some wedding superstitions I’ve heard over time. I guess there’s no harm bearing them in mind.
- In England, it is believed that a spider in your wedding dress means good luck.
- An old English rhyme goes:
Married in White, you have chosen right,
Married in Blue, your love will always be true,
Married in Pearl, you will live in a whirl,
Married in Brown, you will live in town,
Married in Red, you will wish yourself dead,
Married in Yellow, ashamed of your fellow,
Married in Green, ashamed to be seen,
Married in Pink, your spirit will sink,
Married in Grey, you will go far away,
Married in Black, you will wish yourself back.
It’s mostly self explanatory, really. The green color is supposed to be connected to promiscuity, hence “ashamed to be seen.”
- Bridesmaids are dressed similarly as the bride to act as decoys to protect the bride from evil spirits. The bride’s veil is also said to shield from malevolent spirits as well. (It’s like wedding armor, don’t you think?)
