Affordable DIY Beach Wedding Centerpieces

March 31, 2010 | 5K Weddings DIY, Author: Leslie, Centerpieces

Here are some great centerpieces to go along with your theme. They’re inexpensive, and even if you’re not the craftsy type of person, you can create these centerpieces in a snap.

  • Bottles filled with colored sand paired with simple candles will make a great wedding centerpiece. Look for bottles that have a unique shape and fill them with colored sand. Be creative – layer the colored sand and come up with different designs and patterns.
  • Use large seashells and fill them with wax. Insert a wick and voila! You have a seashell candle that matches the theme of your wedding and also makes a unique centerpiece!
  • Buy pillar candles in different sizes and in the color that matches your theme. Use a sturdy type of glue and decorate it with sea shells for that beach effect.
  • Use a medium-sized fish bowl available in any store that sells fishes. Fill that with water, add blue food coloring, and sprinkle the bottom of the bowl with sand. Add some fake starfishes or fishes (the store you bought the fishbowl will probably have these, too) and then put a small candle and let it float on top. Decorate the sides of the fishbowl with some sand as you place it on the table for added effect.

There you have it! Simple and easy. All you need to have is a touch of creativity and imagination. These centerpieces will save you a lot of money and keep your guests into the whole beach wedding theme. Enjoy!

3 Great Tips on Planning a Beach Wedding

March 30, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Beach Weddings, Wedding Venues

Are you one of those couples who are dreaming of the fresh sea air, the romantic sunset, and your fiance all together? Then go ahead and plan a beach wedding! It’s really not as hard as it sounds and the planning and preparation are pretty much the same compared to other types of wedding venues. Here are some tips to make planning a beach wedding a breeze:

  • Approach the local beach council or whoever’s in charge of your beach, like the city office, etc. Inform them of your plans of having a beach wedding and also ask if they observe some do’s and don’t. You wouldn’t want your dream beach wedding ruined by a couple of officials asking you to tear down your decorations, right?
  • Having a Plan B is a Must. I’m not being pessimistic, but just in case it rains on your wedding day, be prepared for Plan B as to where and how you can have your wedding instead. For instance, the hotel you’re staying at the beach may have a function room you could use instead, so have the ceremony there and when the rains stops, you can resume the reception where you initially planned it.
  • Inform your guests ahead of time of the venue and the date when your wedding will be. In this way, your guests won’t be coming on your wedding date wearing strappy 4 inch heels only to sink them in the sand.

Finding Inexpensive Venues pt.2

March 29, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Venues

Continuing my bit on wedding venues…

Say no to open, blank spaces. It is attractive to get a clear space you can decorate to your heart’s content.  They are also less expensive than other venues but if you total the costs of you having to provide all the chairs, tables, lighting, setting up the sound system, and so on, you will find that you spent just as much or even more than those that provide complete equipment.

Get married during the less popular months for wedding. The months of January, February, March, and November are great times to get cheaper venues. Since there is less demand, you can score bargains at some good wedding venues.

Get married on a weekday. It may be inconvenient to some guests to take a day off from work but if it is planned well ahead of time, it should not be too much of a hassle. Saturdays and Sundays are expensive days to get married in compared to Mondays through Fridays.

Wedding Money Wasters

March 28, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Money Wasters

Don’t waste your money on…

Giant wedding cakes

Remember to consider the number of guests you had invited for your reception. If you have thirty guests, don’t order a cake that can feed a hundred people. It’s a total waste of money and good food. The same goes for the dessert. If you have the cake, you do not need to serve your guests with other desserts. Your cake should be the dessert.

An army of bridesmaids and groomsmen

Unless you’re expecting an alien attack and you need an army sized wedding party to defend you, trim down your bridesmaids and groomsmen to a reasonable number. Make sure that you choose people who are the most meaningful and important to you, not a high school friend you haven’t spoken to since you graduated or a distant cousin you only hung out with when you were kids.

Too many mementoes

Of course, you need to have things that will commemorate your wedding day. A beautiful wedding album will do very nicely or preserving your wedding gown will help bring back memories of that wonderful day. Don’t go overboard with personalized picture frames, scented candles or wine glasses engraved with you, your husband’s names, and the date of your wedding, or personalized pens with the same information.

Popular Wedding Flowers

March 27, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Bouquets

If you are still undecided on the flowers to use, here are three of the most popular flowers used in weddings to help you on your way.

Roses

Definitely, the rose is the number one favorite wedding flower of all time. Roses are sturdy flowers and can hold up really well held in a bouquet, as a table centerpiece, and as a hair or dress accessory. It comes with many beautiful colors and each with its own meaning, like red for passionate love, pink for happiness, and white for purity. Roses can be put in arrangement with other flowers but are also spectacular in its own.

Tulips

These elegant spring flower goes well in an arrangement with other flowers but is equally beautiful on its own just like the rose. Tulips also come in many different colors like red, white, yellow, and blue.

Calla Lily

This flower’s trumpet like shape is what makes it popular among wedding celebrations, as if it is heralding the union of husband and wife. It is also one of the easiest to arrange, not needing any filler plants or other flowers. Just tie some flowers together in a white ribbon and it is an instant bouquet.

Finding Inexpensive Venues

March 26, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Venues

The cost for the wedding venue takes up a considerable amount from your wedding budget. Check out some helpful ideas to save some major bucks for your wedding celebration.

Skip the popular venues and go for lesser-known ones or those newly opened for business. Just because a restaurant or hotel may not be as popular as the other does not mean they cannot accommodate you. Also, try looking for restaurants that have recently opened and need the business. Do not be afraid to do some bargaining and tell them that this is what you are willing to spend.

Have the wedding ceremony and reception at the same place. When you are checking out places for your reception venue, ask if it is possible to hold the ceremony there as well. You will only need to decorate one location instead of two. It also saves you and your guests the effort of going from one place to another.

Wedding Reception Disasters – The Sequel

March 25, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Disasters

Here is part 2 of our Wedding Reception Disaster series.

Your wedding gown gets a stain. During dinner you or someone else knocks over a glass of wine and your dress gets spilled on. The solution: Plan ahead. Get tips from experts on how to do quick fixes with the kind of material your gown is made of. If you are wearing white, you can rub some chalk on the stain to make it less visible. When it’s time to take some pictures, do some poses that will hide the part where the stain is or try to have your husband or other people included in the shot creatively cover it. If those fail, you can always have it airbrushed.

The wedding cake melts. The solution: Do not be tempted to show it off longer than is necessary. Sugar does not hold up well in heat. Have the cake stored in a cool place or refrigerator and only take it out when it is time for dinner and taking pictures.

Sometimes, no matter how hard we work on it, there is just no escaping disaster from happening on one of the most important days of your life. Hey, if you got married at the end of the day, then things went according to plan, didn’t it?

Wedding Reception Disasters

March 23, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Disasters

Who has been to a wedding that all went as perfectly planned? Anyone? If there are, good for them. Personally, all the weddings I had been invited to or been a part of the bridal party had its share of disasters, be it major or minor disasters.  Here are just some of the most common ones and how to deal with them should they suddenly crop up.

The musical entertainment is a no-show. There are times that someone will cancel at the last minute or an unfortunate accident will occur. The solution: Always have a music player and a stereo system handy. Make a compilation of your favorite songs and create a playlist. Have someone from your wedding party on standby and be an instant DJ if needed.

It rains. The forecast was bright and sunny for your garden wedding when all of a sudden the skies darken and the rain starts to fall. The solution: Have a tent ready or make sure that your venue has an indoor facility you and your guests can retreat into should the weather turn nasty. Always have a backup plan when it comes to Mother Nature.

To Tip or Not To Tip

March 22, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Tips or Gratuity

That is the question. During the course of your wedding, you will have people serving and assisting you from florists, caterers, photographers, musicians, and so on, providing help that you cannot do without. You may have, for example, a certain waiter or waitress that gave you their exclusive attention throughout the reception. He or she was always ready to grant any special requests you might have had.

When you give a tip, it means that you are personally saying “Thank you” for all the service they have provided and that you are very appreciative of their efforts that went above the call of the duty. Some might balk at the idea of tipping someone whose services are already paid for but if you feel they have given service that has exceeded your expectations, they have brought extra comfort, and ease for you during the entire process, then a tip is more than appropriate. Just remember it not required and it is entirely up to you.
