Remember your mom’s wedding gown? Yup, the one that’s lying around in her attic, collecting dust and other organisms? She probably has the best intentions in saving it for you so you can wear it on your wedding day. But if the design is waaaayyyyy too outdated or it’s either too yellow or too short and damaged beyond repair, think again. Just before you break your mom’s heart, there are actually fun ways you can make use of her old wedding gown, ways she’ll truly appreciate.
1. Check if the lace is still OK. If it is, you can still use it for your own wedding veil. Read our post on DIY wedding veils as well as how to decorate your own wedding veil for tips to help you go along.
2. Use the fabric for your wedding pillow. Your mom will certainly appreciate seeing her wedding gown part of the pillow that will carry the rings that bind you and your fiance in marriage.
3. If you’re hesitant about buying a dress for your flower girl, why not use some of the satin and lace in your mom’s old wedding gown and use it for your flower girl’s dress? That translates to one dress you don’t have to worry about anymore.
4. Also, you can use the lace and the satin as dramatic ribbons to tie up your flowers and your wedding bouquet for your wedding day. Check out our post on DIY wedding bouquets to give you an idea of how to do just so.
5. Lastly, you can use the satin in your mom’s wedding gown for simple yet elegant DIY corsages for your wedding entourage. And don’t forget to mention her and what you’ve done during your speech at the reception – that will certainly be the perfect icing on the cake for your mom.
