Reply Cards – What to Write

January 31, 2010 | Uncategorized

Wedding reply cards are inserts along with your wedding invitation for your intended guests to fill out. They are very important in determining who and how many will be attending. Some reply cards may also include meal preference and inform the invitees if children are allowed or not to the celebration.

Here are some samples for you to go on. You can go formal or fun and personal, it’s your choice. Just don’t forget to include a self-addressed envelope with it so your guests can mail it back to you. Adding your phone number also helps, your guests may have some questions to ask you first.

We have reserved two seats in your honor.

Gift Ideas for the Officiant

January 29, 2010 | Uncategorized

Although not required as most ministers charge a fee for performing your wedding ceremony, giving your officiant a gift is a nice added touch if you personally know them or if you feel that he or she has been an instrumental part of your wedding celebration.

If you know your officiant quite well, giving money may be awkward and most likely will be refused. In the event that they do accept the cash gift, it would go to the church or to charity rather than themselves. You can give him/her a book you know they will surely enjoy. Another good idea is a CD of their favorite artist or type of music.

You can never go wrong with a gift certificate to a good restaurant or tickets to a concert of an artist he/she likes. The whole experience they will get from it will be a good way to show your appreciation.

First Dance Song Suggestions

January 28, 2010 | Music, Uncategorized

The first dance as husband and wife is a very important part of the entire wedding celebration. The song has to be meaningful and significant for both the bride and groom. Couples usually opt for the song that describes their relationship with each other; some go for the song that was playing the first time they kissed, or even as far as the first time they met. However, for those who cannot come up with anything just yet, here are a few ideas. These are just samples; you can totally come up with your own. In fact, it’s better if you do. It would be nice, though, to listen to some of these while you’re thinking of your song to serve as inspiration.

  • It Had To Be You – Harry Connick, Jr,
  • Chances Are – Johnny Mathis
  • Don’t Know Much – Linda Ronstadt & Aaron Neville
  • Only You Can Love Me This Way – Keith Urban
  • Everything – Michael BublĂ©

What to Ask Your Florist

January 27, 2010 | Author: Leslie

Who has ever attended a wedding without flowers? I would say no one. Flowers are an important part of the ceremony and choosing the right florist who will have your best interests at heart is the key.

Like any good job interview, you should have a set of questions to ask prospective florists before you settle on the best one. Here are some:

  • How long have you been in this business?
  • Do you have samples of work that I can see?
  • How much do your services cost? Is there a required deposit?
  • What are your own ideas?
  • Will you be doing other weddings the same time as mine?
  • I have this for my budget. Can you work around this? (Ask for some money saving ideas like seasonal flowers or special packages)
  • How long do you need to work on all the flower arrangements?
  • Do you also provide rental accessories like candles, candlestick holders, aisle runners, vases, potted plants, etc. that might be needed? How and when will you pick up the rentals?
  • Will you deliver the flowers and arrange them on site to ensure everything is in its proper arrangement?
  • Do you preserve bouquets after the wedding?

How to Choose a Wedding Dress

January 24, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Gowns

It is every woman’s dream to walk down the aisle and look her best during her wedding day. And now that you’re busy planning yours, here are some tips to help you choose that perfect wedding dress.

  • Start looking for your wedding dress months in advance, like 6 months or more. Unless you’re buying your wedding gown online or off the rack, you should start searching as early as possible to allow enough time for shipping, and also time for any alterations just in case.
  • Choose a wedding gown that will flatter your figure by taking a sister or a close friend when you shop. Try out basic styles like an empire cut, princess, or a ball gown style and start things from there.
  • Don’t shop in just one bridal boutique – shop in as many as you can before you decide on a gown that makes you look great and doesn’t cost a fortune.

Just make sure to keep your options open and stick to your budget. Also, be on the look out for any sales that bridal boutiques will have so you can save more on your wedding gown.

DIY Wedding Photography Tips – Megapixels

January 23, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Photography

Doing your own wedding photographs can save you tons of money, and if you are wondering if you can do it, here are a few tips to help you do just so.

For starters, if you and your family have digital cameras, you can put them to very good use during your wedding. If you have a 6 – 8 megapixel digital camera, you’re off to a good start since images captured on this type of camera can be blown up to a size of up to 8 by 10 without any distortion whatsoever. The higher the megapixels, the better and larger prints are produced.

Having said so, if you intend on making pictures mostly for your photo album, and perhaps a shot or so that is big, you’re pretty much OK with a 10 megapixel digital camera. Besides, there’s always Adobe Photoshop to edit your pictures, right?

How to Choose Your Wedding Music

January 22, 2010 | 5K Weddings DIY, Music

If you’ve decided to play your own wedding music instead of hiring a band to play, it actually saves you a lot of money. But choosing which songs to play and when they should be played is something you should definitely consider – and here are a few tips to help you get started.

  • Music will need to be played during the wedding itself and the reception, so you need to keep that in mind.

  • If you are having a themed wedding, make sure you choose music that matches.

  • Check with your officiant if there are any guidelines you need to follow when playing music during the ceremony itself, especially if you are having a church wedding. Your officiant may have plenty of songs to suggest, too!

  • During the reception or your first dance as husband and wife, choose a wedding song with great lyrics to dance to. In this way, you’ll enjoy every step as you and your partner dance to the meaningful lyrics.

  • You should also choose relaxing songs that will set the mood for your guests during the reception. You can also choose to insert some of you and your husband’s favorite songs every now and then.

DIY Place Cards

January 21, 2010 | 5K Weddings DIY, Author: Leslie, Place Cards

Place cards are a great way to organize seating for your wedding, particularly during wedding receptions. Instead of going out and buying place cards, you can make one yourself by following these instructions:

  • Think of the style of your wedding place card. There are those that look like business cards and need something to stand or lean against on, and there are others that are folded like a tent that stands up by itself. Choose which one you want to use and start from there.
  • Use the internet and search for place card templates to make everything faster and easier. You can customize it and add your personal touch after you’ve chosen your template. Consider changing colors to match your wedding theme, change the fonts to the one you like, and even add background images of your choice.
  • Choose the appropriate type of paper and print your place cards. If you chose the tent type place card, you will need to choose paper that is a bit thick and sturdy so that it will stand when you fold it in two.

That’s it! Your imagination is your only limit when it comes to designing your own wedding place cards.
