More Flowers in Season

September 3, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Flowers

Here are some more flowers that are in season during September.

Chrysanthemums

- also known as “mums.”  These flowers are one of the most popular in the whole world and are my personal favorites since they always look cheerful and vibrant. They come in many colors and sizes that it’s always hard to choose or stick to just one, such as red, yellow, white, and purple. The white colored ones symbolize truth and loyalty while the red colored ones symbolize love.

Gerbera

- these flowers are relatives of the sunflower and are also widely used for decorative purposes. They come in white, pink, red, yellow, and orange colors although you can also find flowers that have different color petals.

Fall/Autumn Season for Weddings

September 2, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Color, Flowers, Reception, Receptions

This season has to be my favorite when it comes to colors. I don’t think there is any other time when you see almost every tree bursting with spectacular colors of gold, deep red, yellow, orange, and deep purple. Since these are such bold and solid colors, you don’t need too much in terms of decorations and flowers since they stand out well even with just a few.

The wonderfully colored foliage to something to take advantage of since it saves you with decorations of your own. All you and your guests need to do is enjoy the beautiful and natural scenery or take what is already outdoors into your reception venue. There are also so many wonderful flowers in season during autumn that you won’t have a hard time looking for the right ones for you and you can also get them cheaper since they are in season.

The weather is perfect for outdoor activities as well, not too warm but not too cold either. If it gets nifty at night, you can always warm up with some delicious apple cider. The wedding flowers won’t be shriveling under the sun, the cake won’t start to melt early, the guests won’t be squirming in their clothes and sweating profusely, and you and your bridesmaids won’t be worrying that your make up is melting.

September: Flowers in Season

September 1, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Flowers

We’ve mentioned before that using flowers in season is a great way to save money since they are readily available and quite cheap than those flowers that are not in season for your wedding. Here are some that are in season during the month of September to help you with your choices for bouquets, centerpieces, and other wedding decorations.

Agapanthus – commonly known as Lily of the Nile or African Lily although they are not really lilies.  They are actually small flowers that bloom in one big round clump that make them look really striking, even from afar. Flowers usually come in blue and purple colors, as well as white and pink.

Carnations – these are also great wedding flowers because of their size and available colors; they’re very showy and very festive looking and even with just a few of these, you can create quite a dramatic effect.

More Hair Accessories

August 31, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Veils

More stuff from www.forever21.com, figured since I’m already here, I’ll browse more through their products and see what else I can find. If you’re looking for unusual and quirky veils to wear or if you have a vintage theme wedding, you might like these items. They are available in black only.

Netted Rosette Headband

I love this one, it looks very easy to arrange on your hair. I’m a fan of those that you can just attach on your head and forget about for the rest of the day. It’s one thing less to worry about.

It’s priced at $9.80.

Birdcage Feather Veil

This one is really beautiful as well, sells for $12.80. It has a comb underneath so that you can attach it to your hair. There are small and fuzzy accents on the veil itself. I like the feathers since they add a very playful touch.

Satin Bow Veil Hair Clip

If you’re not a fan of feathers, how about this one? This one sells for $10.80 and has a satin bow and rhinestone center trim. It also has double clips underneath to secure it firmly to your hair.

This reminds me of a running joke my friends and I have about the bride being the “gift” to the groom because of the bow on top of her head.

Hair Accessories

August 30, 2010 | Accessories, Author: Leslie

If you’re thinking of skipping the wedding veil for yourself, here are some suggestions for hair accessories that you might want to check out. You can order them at the website or you can use them as inspiration and hunt for your own.

Items below are from www.forever21.com. I liked these since they take little to no fuss when putting them on and you can leave them alone  for the rest of the day. You can even wear them on other occasions so you get  more mileage out of your money compared to a wedding veil that you can really only wear once. Click on the name of the item for more details on them.

Homemade Iced Tea

August 29, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Backyard Weddings, Reception, Receptions

You can’t go wrong with some iced tea for your wedding reception beverage, especially served on a nice and warm summer afternoon.  Here’s a recipe for lemon iced tea that I found on www.healthy-temple.com that you might enjoy. This recipe yields four servings but you can easily adjust the quantity on the number of people you are serving it to.

I added some honey to mine to make it a bit sweeter instead of sugar but if you don’t have honey, sugar is perfectly fine.

Ingredients
4 lemon-flavored herbal tea bags
2 cups water
4 teaspoons sugar
4 cups ice cubes
2 teaspoons fresh lemon juice
4 slices lemon
4 mint sprigs

Cooking Instructions

1. Bring the water to a boil and remove from heat.
2. Place the tea bags in a large tea pot and pour the hot water over them. Cover and steep for 3 minutes.
3. Uncover the pot and remove the tea bags. Add the sugar and stir until the sugar dissolves.
4. Add the ice cubes to the tea and let cool. When the tea has cooled to room temperature, add the lemon juice. Transfer the tea to a pitcher, cover and store in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
5. When ready to serve, fill 4 tall glasses with ice. Fill the glasses with tea and garnish with a lemon slices and mint sprigs.

More Wedding Dress Ideas

August 28, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Gowns

Here are some more ideas for your casual/informal wedding gown search. I like tea length dresses since they’re very easy to move around in and there are no trains or long hems that you can accidentally trip over or get snagged on some object that you happen to pass by. They are also very easy to pair with simple, strappy sandals that you may already have or are very easy to find in most shoe stores.

Best of all, they are cheaper than traditional wedding gowns and with some alterations and addition of some details and colors, you can wear them several times to other events or celebrations.

Ideas for your Wedding Dress

August 27, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Wedding Gowns

Have you been searching the web for ideas for your own wedding dress? Here are some that I found that would go well with backyard weddings; they’re simple yet elegant and very appropriate for casual and outdoor celebrations.  Personally, I like short dresses for backyard weddings since it’s more practical , cooler and more comfortable, and easier to move in. With all the grass and nature around you, it’s easier for brides with short dresses to avoid stains and dirt because of the length. But if you prefer a longer one to wear, that’s perfectly fine as well.

These are from casualweddingdresses

DIY Manicure

August 26, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Nail Care

Make sure every part of you is at their best on your wedding day and that includes your nails. You can save money by doing manicures and pedicures by yourself  and I found this do it yourself manicure instructions from www.marieclaire.com

The instructions are very clear and easy to follow. The original article included some product recommendations but I did not include them here since I believe you can use whatever product you want to use, especially if you already have them at hand.

1. Start by removing old polish. For natural nails, use a nonacetone remover.

2. File nails to desired shape. What looks modern now is a shortish nail, straight across the top with rounded edges. File your nails in one direction starting at the edges and moving toward the top.

3. Soak in soapy water for a few minutes to soften cuticles.

4. Dot a cuticle cream on the cuticles and rub in.

5. Use an orange wood stick (available in drugstores) to push back cuticles. Be sure not to cut your cuticles, which can cause infection and damage the nail.

6. Massage hands with a hand lotion for extra moisture.

7. Wipe nails with a damp cloth to remove excess oils.

8. Apply a base coat. Let dry for one minute.

9. Apply two coats of your favorite color. Always apply polish by starting on the side of the nail. You should be able to cover the nail in three stokes, one on each side and one in the middle.

10. Apply a top coat.  (Remember: If you use a fast-dry top coat, your polish will not last as long.)

What’s On Your Playlist?

August 25, 2010 | Author: Leslie, Backyard Weddings, Reception, Receptions

Have you thought of the songs you’d like playing during your wedding celebration? You and your partner should also schedule a sit down for this as well so that your wedding playlist will be a combination of all the songs you both like and want to hear. After that, you can just download all the songs into your music player and let it play throughout the event.

Personally, I’m not into overly mushy love songs unless they have a special meaning or important memory attached to them and although hilarious, I know that some couples are not up to doing the chicken dance on their own wedding day. For receptions, I’d recommend some light and bouncy music to out everyone in a light and fun mood while they are talking and eating. You can save some romantic love songs for the dancing later, if you have that on the program.  If you and your partner have your “theme song,” there is no question about its inclusion, maybe for your first dance as a married couple.

If you’re looking for suggestions to add more to your playlist, here’s my two cent’s worth. Frank Sinatra songs are very popular choices and if you like his songs, you might also want to check out Michael BublĂ©. I personally like his song “Everything” and I think it’s perfect for a wedding celebration, a man describing what his partner is to him. Very romantic in a cool and upbeat tune. For those who like a more country feel for their playlists, Keith Urban is worth listening to. He has a wonderful combination of both slow and uptempo love songs that you can easily dance to. I even work out to some of his songs because they put me in such a good mood as I listen to them.
